Replacement SC pick up for neck in SD Pro mod?

Hey all,
sorry if this is a stupid question but ive no experience of screwed to the body pups (like on my pro-mod) in a guitar.
Is it possible to replace the neck HB with a single coil?
I havent taken the guitar apart yet (Christ/havent played it yet-no neck!) but do the pup's sit on a metal plate or is that a part of the pup?
I'd ideally like to put a sc in there - just love the sc in a neck position sound.

Just wondering is it possible thats all folks!

You could wire a coil tap which will make the humbucker sound like a single coil.

Yes, it will look odd, but you can do it.

Alternatively, you could buy a socal body and PG and from there, the sky is the limit.

Thanks guys - Was thinking along those lines alright...
On the plus side - just got a few bob and headin to NY so gonna try out a natural sc/hb there
Ya never know, it might just scratch that itch!
