  • Sid Mcginnis / Dave Letterman show guitarist

Does anyone remember back in the early 80's watching Letterman and seeing the guitarist play a yellow and black Strat? I am trying to figure out if it was indeed a yellow and black Strat, and if it was played by the current guitarist in Schaffer's band, Sid Mcginnis. Any help would be appreciated! Also, any pics would be appreciated. Google is coming up empty. Thanks!

Wow, so I guess this a pretty good trivia question?! I'm actually curious because he was one of the first guitarists I "noticed" when I was about 12. I would always try to stay up late (past bedtime) to watch the show to catch a glimpse of him playing. So, yeah he was an inspiration to get me started. I thought it would be cool to own a guitar like that, which is another reason I'm curious what he played. Thanks for the replies so far!

Looks like an ESP headstock to me.

It is ESP. He used to get a lot of ESP parts and assemble his own.

And as you can see in that last clip, he often wore matching yellow shoes !

It was an ESP. I believe he got it from 48th Street Custom guitars in NYC which was a big dealer at the time for ESP and their own brand. The store is gone now. What a shame.

When did 48th St Guitars close? They were open not that long ago
