+1 for the SCREAM. Thank you sir for including that. Now I don't feel so alone in this world. That has been my ultimate bar tone I've wanted for years.

I'm not a big fan of strictly metal tones. I love metal for speed and razorsharp distortion, but tone-wise, they don't gush with juice. TONE, to me, is what I hear when listening to David Gilmour live - like "Comfortably Numb" or Jimmy Page's Marshall on "The Song Remains the Same" soundtrack.

I personally do not care how it was built as long as it is a good playing/sounding instrument.

i tell you what, there's so many great tones to choose from that i could write for hours.
from Alice to Zappa and everything in between or on the outsides, there's so many that are worthy to spout about.
I have a minor talent for being able to drown out the rest of the band if the guitar player is the only one that has
something going on as well when i listen to music.
I don't think you can ask for a better tone than the first Van Halen album. it's ridiculously huge to this day.
Tell you another thing, 2 years earlier than VH 1's album, Boston 's first album blew me away too, the guitar tone was
sonically pleasing on every tune. Too bad they released the same exact album each time after that one.
Anyway, I love a ton of tones, from Hendrix on down the line, too many to list.
Not helping the situation since 1965!

I feel ashamed. Bridge of Sighs is just a masterpiece in guitar dynamics
AMEN Bro! That song to this day makes the little hairs on the back of my neck stand up!

Also Jerry Cantrell's tone is SICK on most of his work but "Down In A Hole" is just insane saturation..

It is really too bad that record is more than half completed in the studio because the resulting tone (on the whole disc) is incredible. It was the first I thought of when I saw this thread.

Santana - love all his stuff, but especially like the tone on Smooth
                        Hendrix's Little Wing
Satriani's Always With Me, Always with you
Randy Rhoads's Crazy Train - I think the tone here is perfection for the song. I mean, the guitar sound totally suggests a train barely under control - it's heavy metal poetry!
+1 Van Halen 1 - I'm also partial to the 1984 tone, but it seems a tone very much of its time
                        +1 Scorpions Blackout
My other signature says something funny
