  • Remmend me a luthier for a floyd rose installation into a Les Paul

    Hello folks,

I'm looking for a good luthier with experience installing floyd rose trems on Gibson Les Paul type guitars.

Thanks in advance for your help.

You could get a Les Paul Axcess (think that's what they call them). Just a thought.
    Gibson SG Standard
    Jackson DK2M Dinky
Silvertone S615 Acoustic from the 60's
    Roland Micro Cube
    Marshall MG100DFX

I already have a Les Paul Custom, so getting another guitar is not an option. I'm sure that there must be luthiers out there that could do this type of work. Lee Garver from GMW use to do this type of installation, but he is no longer offering this service.

You might check with Scott, at Copperhead or Mike Learn. 2 of our very own members.

Does Mike do tech work? I thought he was only a painter.

Mike builds guitars as well, Joe.

Does Scott do this stuff? Didn't know that.

There's also Slash at MojoBodies. BudMan? Sully? I think we have a few luthier-types here, but can't recall who all does what.

Did you want a Floyd nut as well, or were you going to use a Kahler nut behind the stock Gibson Nut?

Scott was doing tech work including refrets, etc. before he opened up his store and continues to do so currently. He's done some work for me previously.

After some thought over night, you may want to consider the Kahler 7200 Stud Mount tremolo or this one, http://www.vintagekramer.com/parts/floydpaul1.jpg if you are just looking for a tremolo. There will be more than simply routing out for a floyd rose on your guitar. The bridge and tail stop holes will be an issue.

You could buy an Agile for less than it would cost to buy a Floyd and pay for installation.

At least you wouldn't be depreciating your Gibson.

Sorry dude, but I have to say it - you'll destroy your Les Paul, it'll cost you hundreds of $$$ and you'll wipe the same value off your axe - don't do it!!!!!!!!!!

+1 bazillion. Not really a good idea. If it were a guitar that the head snapped off or something in really poor condition, maybe. I think the above alternates would be your best bet.I would suggest if you are going to do this at all to us a Kahler nut. But it is your guitar.

This kind of radical guitar butchery makes me think you are not a "Les Paul guy". Time to look at other guitars maybe? Just trying to save you some time and money and misery.
