  • Mini humbuckers in a LP Deluxe - advice needed.

    Anyone know anything about mini-humbuckers?

I'm wondering whether to go with a Seymour Duncan SM-2 or SM-3 in the bridge of a Les Paul. The SM-2 has a higher output at 16.4k versus 11.6k for the SM-3, but the SM-3 is supposed to have more bottom end.

    Opinions?

Yeah, we're all full-size men here

Seriously, I thought everyone routed their minis to fulls, or lived with the originals.

Never tried minis. Not sure if I'm missing anything.

        Try the LPF.

You went from Winter Camo to this?

Don't worry, I'm not getting rid of the original Gibson ones. The guitar I bought doesn't have any pickups at all. I went with the SM-2 for the bridge, and a Gibson MB-R for the neck.

I think regular P-90's will fit in the mini routes - I'd go in that direction. I think you can get more classic tones out of a P-90 than you can out of a Mini-hummer.

That, or route the sucker out for EMGs!!!

There's no need to route. EMG make P-90 size versions of the 81, 85 and 60. http://www.emginc.com/products/category/10
DiMarzio makes a couple humbuckers also in P-90 housing, like the Super D and Tone Zone.

Yeah, go with the P-90 style, you'll be glad you did.

WTF? I couldn't imagine neutering a Les Paul Deluxe.

                    EMG P81 - FAIL
                    EMG P85 - FAIL
                    EMG P60 - FAIL

True. Like Adrian Smith's Goldtop Deluxe that was routed for a humbucker in the bridge. Not sure if he did it, but that guitar is badass!
