high fret from too much glue, fix?

I got a fret on a guitar that is a little high on the D string. Its got a big glue sploth right at that area.

Is there a way to "melt" that glue and gently tap the fret down?!?

Or do I need to file?!?

You could try placing the tip of a soldering iron on the fret to melt the glue and tap it down.Clamping with fret clamp would be best.Tapping sometimes will cause the other end to pop up.
Use a small plastic tipped hammer tho'.

sounds easy enough. Next question for ya. How hot do I need to get that fret?!? Should the glue be bubbling?

Essentially, i just wanna get rid of the excess glue and punch her down ever so slightly. It should be an easy job, but I dont wanna destroy anything.

if you heat the fret, you could potentially unseat the whole thing. if it's not moving in its slot and you don't feel any play after pushing it down, i'd just file it level with the others.
