I used to have one in one of my guitars and found it was a little too "hot" for my taste.
I like to roll off my volume control for cleaner tones and I found it almost impossible to do with this pickup.

I'm not sure what effect (if any) it would have on "hammer-ons". :?

Are you sure you wired it up right? Any Duncan humbucker should let you do hammer-ons with no problems.

Any pickup in any guitar - even a bog standard acoustic - will let you do hammer-ons if you're playing it right.
Did you maybe mean harmonics or something like that?
I had an Invader in my RR3 and I didn't like it partly because I didn't like the harmonics from it, it's not a great pickup for leadwork in all honesty.
If you want to play rythm alone, and want a sound like "Master of Puppets" then the Invader is the perfect pickup, but if you want to play leads I would swap it for something else like JB, Distortion or a Bill Lawrence USA 500XL which is excellent for harmonics and leads.

Invaders need to be set a bit lower than most humbuckers. If you've got it set as high as what you replaced it with, that may be your problem. There is a definite sweet spot that you need to find with them, but even then they're not for everyone.

This pickup has hardly and treble. What is the body wood of the guitar you put it in? If it's basswood it will sound like ass.

im sure that i hard it wired up right. i had a jb before and i like it. i raised it up to the specs that SD gave me..and i ment more along the lines of tapping. for example, the solo for crazy train. its like the sound just died out. hell my el cheapo strat handles tapping better..i just dont understand..the sustain was fine for chords. i guess that i see what u meant by their not a good lead pickup. i have no tone only a volume on all my guitars. i like to be able to play a lil of both. me and my brother switch out playing lead sometimes.

I'm kind of curious as to why you bought the Invader. What you were you expecting it to sound like?

What Seymour specs did you raise it to? If you set it to 3/32" like the generic instruction sheet that comes in their pickup boxes says, that is too close imo. I used Invaders for quite a few years, including in a couple of basswood Ibanez guitars, and was always able to get a pretty good lead tone with the rig I was using. They are far from my favorite pickup now, and something tells me you're probably going to end up replacing yours, but it just doesn't sound right to me that you can't tap with it. Something's up, and I think lowering it a bit might be a good place to start. Just my $.02.

i look up to my step dad and he said that it was a good pickup. also i played a synyster gates sig before and i liked the tone. i play in drop tunings alot and i figured it would work out good for me.

i dont have the paper to tell you the exact specs but it was on the paper that was included. yeah i believe that ima go active like i wanted to, with a new blackout. my step dad robbie talked me out of it in the first place and i regret it now.

You DID connect the red and white wires together when you wired it yes? I don't just mean tape them together, I mean you actually soldered them, or at least connected them electrically?

Ah good. Your problem is SOLVED my man. Enjoy the pickup!

You've basically got a single coil Invader just now - put the red and white together and tell me how much it sounds like "Master Of Puppets" tone!
