  • Neck thickness question

Does anyone know the neck dimensions of the Charvel Model 4 at the 1st and 12th fret?
I remember back in 87' a friend had one of the white ones with the actual kahler trem on it and how much I loved that neck- more so than my Model 2. It was thinner and slightly flatter than the Model 2 but thats all I remember from that long ago.

Does anyone on the forum have a Model 4?

Yeah those felt great from what I remember; I'm just wondering what the actual measurements are?

Yeah I am; seriously I've been on here a few weeks now and have seen some amazing custom, high dollar Jacksons and have had the feeling that the majority of the players on here wouldn't waste there time on the cheaper ones.

My income bracket at the time however keeps me more focused on affordable models- like the 87' Model 2 that I have and love now!! I would like several more of those, but just slightly thinner necks.

I don't have any dimensions to list for you, but imo the toothpaste logo bolt-on Charvels like the 375, 475, and Predator tend to have a little bit thinner profile than most of the Model Series bolt-ons, so they could be closer to that one you loved so much. You might want to check one of those out if you don't mind a slightly smaller body (dinky vs. fullsize strat). They have a better stock trem than the Model Series guitars as well.

sorry man wasnt trying to be too much of a smart ass...at my income bracket i shouldnt buy any guitars. I am lucky enough to have pieced together a couple of japanese bodies to usa necks with top components(OFRs and duncans on both) for under $4-500 each (couple of years back) and scored a rg565 in the pawn shop for $180(!) (even longer ago, 3-4 years?); but i would guess most members also arent lucky or hard-working enough to afford CS or even us jacksons either. so dont feel bad and keep your eyes open im sure you will come up on a killer axe or two one way or the other!

Not a problem Chris, all good my friend. A major score by the way on the 565!!
I have serveral custom Ibanez RGs that I'm thinking about unloading because I really have returned to my 80's Charvel roots. I'll give a shoot out here when I decide because I'm thinking of trading for Charvels.

And dg, I'm grateful to you for offering the info you did! In my research the past month, which has been frustrating to say the least, I'm amazed at how many different shapes and thickness' the Jackson and Charvels have!!! After playing the Ibanez RG's for 22 years I have lots to catch up on. The biggest problem is finding those models you mentioned to feel and try out.
Unless I find them in a pawn shop or run into someone that has one there is no way to tell. So I have to ask these pesky questions! LOL But the 1st and 12th measurements give me a ball park.

If you're looking for something in the Ibanez Wizard neck ballpark, then a Fusion may be something to look for. The USA Jackson Fusion necks are very, very thin. I've never played one of the import Charvel Fusions, so I'm not sure if they're any thinner than a 375 or 475. Someone here should know.

Well honestly I have moved on from the super thin necks and now like a little more meat.
I actually went into town today and felt a Jackson DK2M and really liked that except I almost want to say its asymmetrical and feels ever slightly thicker on the low E side. It could be my imagination though but thats what it felt like. I still remember the Model 4 feeling flatter but maybe not thinner.
I really liked DK2M neck though and its much thicker than the wizard neck but thats what I'm going for now.
