  • worth replacing EMG85 with an 89??!?

Ive heard mixed reviews on if the change is even that drastic. Ive heard it's as simple as rolling back the volume a little and it's the same "effect"

Its a bit of a PITA to order the pup, rewire the guitar with a switch, etc..

So im curious, for you guys with 81's/85s/89's, is it worthwhile to bother with the 89, or can a guy get a very similar tone with some slight EQ work, and a roll-off.

I like nice sparkling Clean tones at times, and ive only played on EMG's a few times, never enough to get too crazy!!

An 89 IS an 85, but with a coil tap. I dont think you're going to get the clarity of a single coil by rolling back volume on an 85. I've wired a few 89's and always used a push pull volume. I think they sound great!
