  • Hello (Is this guitar authentic? Help!)

Hi everyone, as you ppl see, im new to this forum, because i had a great doubt, about a guitar im buying today. Because i dont like chit-chat
    these are the facts.

There's a guy selling me a Jackson Soloist SLSMG at (im from Mexico) 3800 pesos (like 350 US dlls) and i just wanted to know if it was an authentic jackson, because there some things that left me with doubt like, the back of the neck is not black, its like wood, and the frets are shark inlay and not piranha inlay.

These are the pictures of the guitar i am being offered.

    http://img183.imageshack.us/my.php?image=7932943zz7.jpg

And these are pictures from Guitar center or any other internet guitar shop

So ...thats my doubt , as i just said, the one im being offered has wood texture on the back of the neck and has shark inlay on frets. The other isnt.

I would really appreciate it if you told me what you guys think about this guitar , because its at a very goood price and im probably buying it today, so i just want to know if its an authentic Jackson Soloist SLSMG that came out with slight changes.

    Thx in advance

Not neck through = not SLSMG. Not sure if it is still a good deal.

Huh, I thought SLSMG was a neck thru?
Jackson MG Series SLSMG Super Lightweight Soloist Features:

        • Body: Mahogany with Carved Top
        • Neck: Neck-Thru-Body Mahogany with Scarf Joint Head Stock
        • Neck Dimensions: 3rd Fret: .735", 12th Fret: .810"
        • Tuning Machines: Sealed Die-Cast Tuners
        • Fingerboard: Ebony with Compound 14" to 16" Radius
        • No. of Frets: 24 Jumbo Frets
        • Bridge Pickup: EMG® 81
        • Neck Pickup: EMG® 85
        • Controls: Master Volume, Master Tone
        • Bridge: JT390 Adjustable Bridge with Strings-Through-Body
        • 3-Position Pickup Switching
        • Hardware: Black
        • Pickguard: None
        • Scale Length: 25.5" (648mm)
        • Width at Nut: 1-11/16" (43mm)
        • Compound (14" to 16") Fingerboard Radius
        • Ivoroid Binding on Neck and Headstock
        • MOTO Piranha Tooth Position Inlays
        • 3-Over, 3-Under AT1 Tuning Machine Array
        • Strings-Through-Body with Tune-O-Matic Bridge

meaning it is NOT a SLSMG
        I would not pay that

It would be a great price if it was an SLSMG. I don't know what the heck it is though. I thought the bolt-on MG series all had the regular pointy Jackson headstock. I'm not up on my import Jacksons, though. There's so many variations.

I wouldn't buy it until you know exactly what model it is. Somebody here will know.

Whoa Thx!!! so it is legit!!!

im gonna make a little more research based on that.
I guess the one this guy is selling to me is like the 2 red ones at right, it has shark inlay and it also looks like it is bolt on.

any more info bout this guitar would be greatly apreciated.

              Thx lot Toejam

Yeah, the ones on the right are bolt-on. They're not mine, just a pic of someone else on here who owns them. Sometimes Guitar Center, Musician's Friend or some other big store has special runs of certain guitars made for them.

i continuously learn something every day from here. I honestly thought anything that carried the name "Soloist" was because it was a neck though.

Sort of like the Japanese made Sam Ash SL2H soloist

Edit: Sorry for the incorrect information.

You didn't give any wrong info. Soloists are all neckthrough, similar bolt-ons are Dinkys. I guess what he has here is some variation of a D_MG, like a DXMG but stringthrough and with the 3+3 headstock.

But its still a good deal, right?
after all, here in Mexico , guitars are extremely expensive, a New Fender Strat (Mexican) is 6900 pesos (650 dlls) and the chepaest Ibanez RG is 5000 pesos (470 dlls) and it doesnt even have Floyd Rose.
So i guess this would be a good deal.

Based on that, it's probably a pretty good deal in your country. No idea what that guitar went for new, but a DXMG can be had new for around $450 here.
