  • Looking for Floyd Rose Helper

Not even sure what to call it so I can't google it. I keep looking and looking and can't find this tool that was recommended on this board.

It's a tool that is used to keep the floyd rose in place when changing strings. I like to take all the strings off so I can clean the fretboard really good. I guess it attaches to the arm and holds it there. No, I cannot use my wife for this anymore. I also don't like putting anything under the floyd rose like a battery or eraser because it bends the little tension tabs on the saddle screws.

Anyone know where I can find one of those?

Tremolok. It's been out of production for a long time.

Just throw an old T-shirt or towel under there if you can't find one of these.

That's close, but it's still putting the pressure on the underneath part of the floyd which I don't like. There are those little metal tabs under there that I'm worried about.

What I'm thinking of is something like a clamp that would use the body of the guitar and the handle to hold the floyd level.

Get a thin wood scraper or piece of steel about .09" thick and wrap a thin polish cloth around it. With the strings still on, shove the steel and cloth under the floyd past the fine tuner tangs. Of course this only works on non-recessed floyds.
The other thing you can do is take off the spring cover on the back of the guitar and shove a block of wood between the Floyd spring block and the gap to the spring recess. You may have to custom cut a block.

The metal tabs are for the tension of the fine tuners. They'll be fine.

Of course you can get one of these and it will perform multiple functions.

i dont like cloth and stuff because it usually doesn't keep the floyd from pulling up really far.

if you want a clamp, go buy a clamp.

me, i just use a gatorade bottle cap or a piece of wood I chopped to fit. i keep one or the other in the cases of my guitars that have floyds.

Wrap a polishing cloth around an ink pen (we "Luthiers" prefer the Bic Stic ), slide it under the tension spring so that the bend in the spring straddles the pen/cloth combination and POW!! No scratches, no messed-up fine tuner tension springs, the Floyd sits reasonably level, etc...
There is no "team" in "Fuck You!"
