    Here's a few handy links.

    Audio Taper Pots vs Linear Taper Pots

    http://westlabs.com/Pots.HTML#Taper

    A 1 Meg Audio Taper Pot and an 1 Meg Linear Taper Pot will both have all values between 0 ohms and 1,000,000 ohms distributed along their rotation. Any value that can be set on one pot can be set on the other! The difference is the way the resistance is DISTRIBUTED along the rotation. The Linear Taper Pot will have the resistance distributed equally along the rotation of the pot with the middle point in the rotation showing half the resistance. The Audio Taper Pot will have the resistance more "Bunched at one end" and will be logarithmically distributed along the rotation. Audio Taper Pots tend to be used for volume controls and SOME tone controls, because as you turn the knob up they give a more natural feeling for volume vs position. On the rest of the tone controls they tend to be at the discretion of the designer's taste etc. I believe that EVERY pot you will ever find on a guitar will be Audio Taper as they basically consist of volume controls and treble cut controls.

    Thanks again Newc those were very helpful, and this should be stickied.

    We can post links to wiring diagrams, pot values, etc.. here so we have it all in one place.
    And hopefully this thread can be kept simple with no bs and only facts, and actual diagrams/links posted only, just to keep this page nice and simple to make the searches easier.

      I think wiring diagrams are in the Big Sticky (Paint To Parts), but many of the image links in that thread are dead, and some of the VBB tags are corrupt so you get all kinds of extra junk in the posts.

      I would like to see threads separated by category, though -

      Electronics->Guitar&Bass (control and pickup wiring/mods)
      Electronics->Amps&Effects (amp and pedal/footswitch/wah wiring/mods)
      Electronics->General info (like this one, value charts, pickup wiring code conversion, etc)

      Hardware->Guitar&Bass (bridges, tuners, etc)

      Paint&Woodwork (refin, touch-ups, equipment, tools, etc)

        I totally agree with you on that one man.
        It would answer alot of the same old questions that are asked here on a weekly and sometimes daily basis.
