  • Do i need 4 springs for drop C?

Currently I have the OFR totally balanced using 9-42 strings in drop D (only using 3 springs).

My band is going to be using drop C, so I went out and got myself a pair of 11-48 strings, however, they didn't have any extra tremolo springs . So now, I'm wondering if I can get away with using 3 springs in drop C.

the string gauge has gone up, while the tuning has gone down, wouldn't this just level out the tension as it is right now?

    thanks guys!

Depending on the condition of your springs I'd say that you will be able to use 3.
I've used 3 springs when tuning down 1-1/2 steps to C# using 12-56 guage Ernie Ball.
Might have to run the claw screws in a good bit, but you should be fine.
