no, you don't have to. you can wire it how you want.

check out the wiring diagrams on the EMG site: http://www.emginc.com/support.asp#

the pdf for installing EMG-81, 85, 60, 60A, H, HA has a number of possible setups, the first in the file being for 1 Volume.

I wire all of my guitars with 1H/1V.
Just use EMG's basic schematic and wire it accordinglly, but bypass where the tone control is.
            It's actually simple as that.
If you need a diagram let me know and I'll post one.

yeah i usually wire my guitars the same way even if it has a tone knob pre-existing. i just put the dummy control closest to the neck an use the vol where the tone knob usually is so that the vol control is outta the way. actually even if it has h/s or h/s/s . i only use the bridge pickup and the rest just get disconnected. the only guitars i wire all pickups in is a H/H

Not a problem Mr.C, glad it worked out ok for you.
I had a hard time find one, so I studied an EMG 1v/1t diagram and drew up my own.

i would wire in the tone knob and leave it tured up and hidden inside the control rout. without it you'll have feedback issues at giging volume.

I dont have a problem with any of my guitars, why do you say that it will cause feedback?
I heard that the tone actually sucks high end up, does it take the feedback with it?
Could you please explain what you mean?
