  • Recommend a good pickup?

Hi. I just bought a Dinky Reverse Pro, early 90's. I don't like the stock Jackson pickup -- sounds a bit "tinny" to me. I need a bridge pickup that will provide a good 80's Metal kind of tone. Growl and sustain on power chords and screaming pinch harmonics. No mid-range, the amp provides that if I want.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks.

8 strings? Because 6 is too easy?

Seymour duncan custom. It's hot and has dropped mids.

I say Duncan Custom Custom, DiMarzio Super Distortion or Bill Lawrence 500Xl, expecially the last one, its definition and capability to take harmonics is astonishing...

I have about 10+ Seymour JBJ PUs with no logo on the front. I think they sound great. Then I got a brand new JB and it sounded just as good as the ones from the 80's.

I also have two DDJ's from the 80's with no logo on the front.

SH are for Gibson string spacing
TB's are for Floyd or Fender string spacing.

The Hotrod set I believe can come in either SH or TB, you just have to specify.
The set consists of the JB bridge and Jazz neck.

SH JB and TB JB are exactly the same in terms of sound. One is for a trem fitted guitar (TB) the other isnt.
The LiveWire's are a different kettle of fish, since they're actives. You'll need to rewire your guitar to take them. I did it with a set of Blackouts and I like them a lot.

How big of a difference will it make having a SH in a floyded guitar instead of a TB? I have an SH-6 in my RR3 and I haven't noticed any problems with it, the guitar sounds great with it. Should I be concerned or start thinking about changing the pickup?
In the future though I need to remember to not buy guitars while on Nyquil

It won't make any difference, I wouldn't worry about it. Like you say yourself, you haven't noticed any problems.
If you were going to buy a new pickup for the RR3 then I'd get a trembucker simply because it's designed to fit the guitar type, but I wouldn't worry about it unless you want a different pickup.
I had a standard spaced Custom in my RR3 and it was fine.
