  • Ohm ratings on headphones

I'm about to replace my tatty DT100's which rated 2x8ohm. There are however other DT100's with different ohm ratings. How do I know which are supposed to be more/less suitable for a) my ears, b) the equipment I use them with?

that's the impedance rating. For some situations like studio, they want you to go with "high impedance" headphones only. The higher the impedance, the higher you have to crank the volume on your Ipod for example. Its best to hit a balance so you can use the headphones with a variety of sound devices.

So if the headphone output of my VSR880 is 8-50 ohm, is it best to go for the highest impedance headphones cloest to that same rating? I can only find 8, 16 or 400ohm DT100's.
