  • Tonerider pickups - anyone try these yet?

I just ordered and am waiting to receive a Generator model black bridge pickup from these guys. I heard about them over on the HarmonyCentral boards. I love the sound clip - I just hope it's not all the Laney amp it's being run through! It was a very reasonable $40 plus shipping.

    Anyone else try these yet?

I dont think you are hearing just laney
they sound quite good for a $39 pup
being that they are imports they can keep the cost down
The only thing i wonder about is their QC?
If it's not a CHARVEL then i dont want to play it,look at it or even fuckin THINK about it!

They seem to have great reviews, especially for the price. A lot of the guys on the ReRanch board love them, but they aren't into the overdriven, shred thing, so be forewarned - they're not Superdistortions! Build quality looks quite good, so I wouldn't worry too much about QC any more that I would for a DiMarzio or SD....

I have about 6 sets waiting to go into guitars and basses, hope to be able to try them out soon myself!
Crime doesn't pay. Neither does lutherie...

Just got the pickup in. This is a Generator Bridge pickup with an Alnico V mag and is rated at 16k output. I figure it is supposed to be their version of the JB. I'll post a clip when I get it installed.

First thing I noticed is the pickup isn't as tall as a regular Seymour or DiMarzio, which means the magnet is probably smaller. I don't know if that's necessarily a bad thing. Are bigger magnets always better?

If anyone's interested, I posted a short song with the new Tonerider pickup in my Dnky. http://www.jcfonline.com/forums/show....php?p=1131920

I really like the pickup. It's got a great punchy bark to it, and the bottom end is very, very tight.
