  • Putting a bolt-on together

I took a bolt-on guitar apart for maintenance purposes, and when I put it back together I started doubting how tight must the screws (of the bolt-on) that hold the neck to the body must be?
must they be as tight as possible ?

Just a hair past "give it a good, solid crank".

As long as you've got a neckplate or ferrules for the neck bolts, you'll know when to stop, but then if you put too much into it you'll drill out the hole with the screw.
I want to depart this world the same way I arrived; screaming and covered in someone else's blood

Once you get the alignment of the neck straight, you just need to "snug" the screws down. No need for super torque. For the most part, the strings hold the neck into the pocket. The screws hold the neck flat in the neck pocket and not much torque is required.
