  • EMG Quik-Connect.

I bought a used EMG 81/85 set off ebay, but the didn't come with the Quik-Connect wires. My plan was to buy them from an EMG dealers, but them I found out they were £7 each + postage (around $14). Not a huge amount of money, but I'm not paying £15, when I could just solder pick-up wire on.

Anyway, I've done that and they work, but I'm not sure I've wired them the correct way round. This is how I've wired it:

    Is this correct?

Also, I've used a different 0.1nF capacitor than the one usually supplied. Will this matter? Thie one I've used is Tantalum Bead Capacitors 0.1uF 35V.

I can't get a good clean sound, it always sounds distorted.

    Thanks.

You have it wired as EMG shows:

EMG81/85 aren't made for clean sounds, they have the single coil sized S and SA for that. If you want a clean sound in a humbucker size, you'll have to use their 'single coil in a humbucker housing' model H or HA

Excellent. Thanks. Don't need to to be clean (I've got a Strat for that). Was just worried that I'd wired it wrong.

just call EMG and ask them nicely if they will send you a couple quick connect wiring harnesses. they did it for me.

Id try a different capacitor. Look into a metal film one. Im not sure it will help but Ive never seen a tantalum cap in a guitar.
