  • Question about EMG-S (set)

I was on EMG's website and was looking at the -S and couldn't' find any information on what position they would go in. Do they all have the same Ohms?

Yeah, you can put them anywhere in any position. They all have an internal preamp, so their output is nearly identical.

Why would they do this wouldn't they produce the same tone?

well, i was running an SA set in a strat a few years ago. it was VERY different for me. i am used to, and actually LOVE the sound of real single coils. the tone was a little different, based on the position, but the output was equal, and moving between positions wasn't AS noticeable as with real single coils. i enjoyed it because i had a quiet strat to play on stage that had a BIT more power to the sound (vs. a standard humbucker), but eventually dumped the EMG's in favor of a set of duncans (lil '59, and 2 duckbuckers).
        GEAR:

some guitars...WITH STRINGS!!!! most of them have those sticks like on guitar hero....AWESOME!!!!

some amps...they have some glowing bottle like things in them...i think my amps do that modelling thing....COOL, huh?!?!?!

        and finally....

i have those little plastic "chips" used to hit the strings...WHOA!!!!

The position (or placement) of a pickup has a lot more to do with its tone than the kind of pickup. So an EMG S in the neck will sound a lot different than an EMG S in the bridge. But, like any pickup, you can put anything wherever you want. I was getting some good tone with a Duncan Invader at the neck (and it was a B bridge designation!) and also a Little Screamin' Demon bridge at the neck in another guitar.
