  • problem with my ENGL powerball head?

    hi,

recently my Powerball has been sounding very harsh and grainy and not nice and smooth as it used to. it started suddenly after a popping sound.

what could have happened? can it be a tube gone bad?

    any help is appreciated.

Any time a tube amp develops an issue you should begin by checking the tubes really close. And even if none of them show any apparent problems, like microphonics or whatever, you should try swapping them out one after the other with a known fresh tube and see if the problem disappears somewhere along the line.

I had a heck of a time trying to pinpoint a problem in my Rivera... it ended up being two Boogie-branded tubes that was starting to die at the same time, so I didn´t catch on until I started swapping out two at a time.
