  • Roland GK-3 Pickup and Floyd Rose Guitars

I am considering purchasing a Roland VG-99 that uses the GK3 pickup and would like to mount on one of my Jackson's that has a Floyd Rose. Has anyone done this before. All the examples I see seem to have it on a Gibson or strat. Are there any pitfalls to doing this?

The main issue with mounting any kind of synth pickup on a guitar with any kind of fulcrum tremolo bridge, is that the fulcrum changes the height of the strings over the pickup when you use it. Thus giving an inconsistent signal to your MIDI. In the world of magnetic pickups, such inconsistency can be a wonderful and expressive thing. In the world of synthesizers, not so much.

This is why you see so many synth pickups mounted either on non-trem guitars, or alongside vintage trems that will obviously not get much use. Also why they were popular with the Kahler trems in the 80's.

I'd say try it with one of those stick-on interfaces first and see how it works for you.
please don't put it into words, 'cause I fear what you're thinking
