  • EMG squealing

I have terrible problems with squealing sounds of my rig. Especially when I don`t play, but just trying to mute the sound with the palm of the right hand. First, I thought that`s the amp. Framus Cobra is a very high gain amp. But we connected my friend`s old stock Kramer Pacer, as wel as my Charvel, and there was no noise at all!! So it`s not the amp. My guess is it should be the pick up. There`s single EMG 85, with no tone pot and with 2 9Volt batteries. We checked the wires, and it seemed everything`s connected and soldered properly..?
    Any suggestions?

Turn down the gain and ajust your EQ. I would guess that the other 2 guitars the pickups don't as much output they also don't have the same Res. peaks. Is there a problem when you play clean and how close to the amp are you when you play.

I don`t play clean :-) Will try that tomorow...The feedback is there even if I step 5-6 meters away from the amp. Maybe the problem is, as you`ve said, the high output of the pickup...

don't bother adjusting anything on your amp!

hook the tone pot and capacitor back up like the EMG wiring harness comes with. it will solve all your problems.

I don't think that'll solve the problem. EMGs are just prone to more feedback and squealing because of their output. It's happened to me before, especially when I had my old Mesa F-30 combo (both on my Dinky with 85/60 vol/tone and Les Paul 85/81 two tone/two volume). Stepping further away from the amp or turning down the volume and gain or possibly even lowering the pickups will help.

Yeah a squeal like that sounds like feedback to me. Back off the gain.

all of my guitars that do not have a tone pot and cap squeel like hell. the ones with tone pots and caps stay relatively quiet when muting the strings with the volume up.

My amp has a "notch switch". When the switch is engaged, it is sucking out the mids. So, I`ve found out that when the switch is not engaged, I get squealing. When it is engaged, there`s no squealing at all!! Maybe the problem is in the amp,not the pick up...?
