  • Quality neck pickups, which ones?

Any one here recommend a full sounding neck pickup? I want a deep, round sustaining sound out of it. The best way I can describe it is I want it to sound something like the tone on Marillion’s Chelsea Monday…

I need opinions on a hot rails type neck pickup and a normal size neck pickup. I find that I’m not using my SL1 because the stock Seymour Duncan neck pick up sounds like arse…weak arse.

My SLSMG has EMG 81 & 85 fitted, they have to go, they’re adding too much fizz to my tone, so I need recommendations for a quality set of passives.

    Any ideas?

How much do you want to spend, I like bareknuckels in most of their forms, it's a pity they are so pricey. But you get what you pay for.

Not too concerned about the price, I'd be selling on the EMG's to recoup some of the cost.

I have an SD Hotrails in the neck position on one of my fusions and I really like the sound of that and in my Edwards LPC I have an SD SH-6 in the neck position (this one is a much fuller sound)

Quick question: will a standard single-coil fit in a slanted slot, ala the neck position in a Predator?

I have the Distortion Mayhem set in my 750XL as well. I think I bought the pickups from someone who pulled them from an Edwards. Great neck pickup.

I'm also a big fan of the Duncan Distortion in the neck position (and in the bridge as well, but that's tied with the Duncan Custom)... very fat sound in the neck.

Just to be clear, when I say Distortion neck, I'm refering to what is also called the Seymourizer. I think it's a 12K pickup. I'm not sticking a Duncan Distortion bridge pickup in the neck.

please don't put it into words, 'cause I fear what you're thinking

Duncan JB or Custom Custom for the neck humbucker, JBJr or Lil59 for the single-coil neck.

Depending on how much you want to spend check out WCR,Lindy Fralin,Jim Rolph and other boutique pickup makers.First try an rsguitarworks pot upgrade kit then see how you like the pickups you already have.
All the guitars I build get the kits first thing no exceptions.I use WCR and Lindy Fralins.
My latest project is a PRS SE standard and its getting Fralin/RSguitarworks true 60's PAF's

I have a Duncan Hot Rails neck in both middle and neck positions of my SL3 and both are great. What Duncan do you have in your SL1 that sounds so poor? Jazz? I have that in my RR3 and Epi SG neck and don't find it to be "weak arse" at all. Roll the tone back and it's ideal for creamy leads.
