  • What kind of wood should I use for a body?

I was thinking about making a guitar body, I was going to use Osage orange?
dose any one know if that is a good kind of wood to use? we have a lot of Osage orange trees around so I'm going to go cut one down and rip it to size.
    Any ideas?????

    Thanks all.

Osage orange? An orange tree? Do they even come off trees? I don't remember. I get the feeling its not what you are looking for. Guitar woods used now are used because they are, well, proven.

You will have to wait a considerable amount of time for Osage to dry. At room temerature, you may be waiting a couple years before it is stable enough to use. It will be quite heavy as well. You may want to consider buying a blank from www.stewmac.com or www.warmoth.com if you wish to do it quickly.

You want to use the good stuff, like Balsa, Agathis and Poplar.
            Lucite sounds better than wood.

Kind of a sidenote. While doing my rounds, I always look for those really thick coffee tables. I'll find what I am looking for one of these days. A 2in thick table made of Monkey Pod. Not Monkey Pud.
I am a true ass set to this board.

Doesn't osage have a lot of sap?Like pine you'll need to let it dry for several years.
