  • Floyd Nut size

What is the standard floyd Nut on the standard series Charvels. R4?

  • #2
1 11/16" nut can use either an R3 or an R4 nut.
The R3 has wider spacing than an R4.
R3 (43MM for licensed trems) seem to be fairly common on Floyded J/C guitars.

Sorry Rick, you got it backwards. The R3 is narrow spacing and the R4 is wider spacing. Like stated above the R3 and R4 is for a 1-11/16" wide nut. Jackson uses R3 on the select series because of the binding. I prefer R3 with or without binding but that is just me.

I always mix the spacing up.
But the R3 is the most common nut size used though.

The R5's are 1 3/4"...and all I can use... I have large hands...
Just scored a black one on Ebay cheap this week, as a matter of fact...

All you tiny-handed people send your R5's (and those poor pointy and strathead necks, deemed "too wide" ) to me...I'll see to it they find good homes...lol
