  • passive pups for Basswood recommendations

the only passive pup i've heard in my basswood is the Duncan Distortion. i though it sounded great. are there any other pups that you can recommend for Basswood?

currently for passives i like the JB in a les Paul and a Super Distortion in an alder strat.

I played a model 4 (basswood) with a maple board and a Dimarzio FRED/PAF Joe combo that sounded killer.

I have an Anderson guitar w/basswood and an Anderson H3+ pickup, sounds great. Many of Tom Anderson's guitars use basswood (Proam model as example). This Proam has an Anderson H3 pickup in it:

You're going to get a million opinions as people have different tastes......Here's mine: I personally like Dimarzio Evolution Bridge in a Basswood body. Try to buy from a place that will allow you to exchange the pickup if you don't like it. I remember the Dimarzio factory used to let you exchange a Dimarzio pickup for another one for a limited time after purchase, but please double-check this and don't go by my word. Good luck!

I have to agree with those. I get great 80s metal tones with my ToneZone in my Charvel.

I think it depends a lot on the kind of music your playing. My preference is for EMG"s.

All of the following have sounded good (to me) in basswood guitars, albeit for somewhat different tones:

                      Duncan Invader
                      Duncan JB
                      Duncan Screamin' Demon
                      DiMarzio Steve's Special
                      DiMarzio PAF Pro
                      sigpic

+1 The Evolutions sound great. Also, you can't go wrong with the Breeds with a Maple/Rosewood neck for that low end "umph". And yes, you have 30 days to exchange them with DiMarzio. I just bought 12 sets of DiMarzio's for guitars I'm building although they won't be finished in 30 days, so my picks better be right
