They actually last quite a long time. I don't think you would need 10$ a week even if you left your guitar plugged in all the time.

Your have to do a lot more wiring for active, ie EMG, pickups to work. 1, You need a stereo jack. 2, With EMG's you need 25K pots. 3, Just don't leave in plugged in at the guitar. Like they said, the battery will last a long time. And, 4, they are a pain in the ass if you have a loaded pickguard and no access in the back of the guitar.:ROTF:
I am a true ass set to this board.

You have other issues if a 9 volt battery cost you $10

I use a Duracell regular copper top in mine. It has lasted up to three years.
But I unplug it every time, and I check it for corrosion every so often. No problems yet.

Unplug the cable from the guitar when not playing. If you leave it plugged in, it will drain the battery much quicker.

Geese... I had EMG's in my main guitar for almost three years, may have changed the batteries (18v) a grand total of 4 times... at $3/battery that's $24 dollars in 3 years. Or... $0.02/day. I think you can afford that :P
