  • Problem with my neck pickup

Have a SLATQH with the neck humbucker that isn't working correctly. When I a have it plugged in, and only that pup is selected, you can barely hear it coming through the amp, and it is completely clean sound.

It has worked before, so I am thinking it might just be loose wiring.

Any other ideas of what it might be?

Check for continuity between the solder points on the neck pickup. I installed new pups the other day and had the same problem. Everything looked good but one of my two solder points on the switch needed a little more attention.
    Just one more guitar!

I have that trouble a lot, and the source of my woes is the three-way switch. I'll slam the switch back and forth, and that gets her going again. If that is your issue, you can clean the contacts on the switch with contact cleaner.

Thanks! I never even considered the contact points. The pickup has worked intermittantly, so that might be it. I will also be checking the solder points as well.

It's the three way switch. How am I so sure? I bought an SL2H from Houston, TX and have the same problem. I'm guessing the humidity with all of the rain you guys got this summer has gummed up the contacts of the three way switch. Since the neck position is rarely used, it sits open to the air.

Had an LP come from Hawaii with similar issues. Guitars need to be used/played.

So what should I use to clean the toggle contacts? Alocohol?

Last time I ran into that, I removed the switch, took the switch completely apart, and cleaned the contacts with contact cleaner that I found at Radio Shack:

Then I reassembled the switch and put it back in. I would NEVER just blast that stuff into your control cavity. If someone knows of an easier and/or better technique, I'd be curious to hear about it.

I like those pointer swabs they have up there. You could maybe get one of those into the switch to clean it without having to remove it?
