  • Pickup rings

I was wondering if anyone has ever done what I'm thinking about doing. I recently aquired what I'm sure is a '95 Dinky body. I noticed that the pickups are mounted direct with no p/u rings. I would really like to have p/u rings. Has anyone ever "covered up" theirs with pickup rings? Looks like all I have to do is just drill holes for the mounting screws. Is this a stupid idea or what? Main reason I ask is I would like to use EMGs and I think they would look better with p/u rings.

Am I nuts to do this??????:ROTF:

I had an early stone finished dinky(DR5) that had the pickup rings and it looked fine.It had a factory coil tap as well and a schaller logo'd trem.I had it all apart and it had never had screw holes in the pickup cavities. The coil tap had original solder joints. When I got it it still had the plastic on the truss rod cover and rear cover plates.
    I say go for it.
    Really? well screw Mark Twain.

I think EMG's look nice direct-mounted, but i doubt the pickup rings would cause any problems.

I did it, but I switched from EMGs to Duncans, because I was very unhappy with the EMGs. Before and after

Something just doesn't look right with the EMG humbucker "sticking out of the hole." I like yours much better with the ring. I was thinking of going with chrome rings to match the floyd. Thanks for the photos.

As long as you don't mind the fact you will have 4 tiny screw holes in the face of your guitar. You can even leave the pickup mounted to the body and just cover the tabs with the PU ring.

Update: Thanks for all the responses. I have received the body and have made it into a very cool Dinky. I used a neck from a Jackson PS2 so along with the other parts it is still all Jackson. Anyway here it is in all it's glory. Not bad for a body I picked up for $20 on eBay!

PS: you can't tell but the pickup rings are chrome.

looks great. I don't like the look of direct mount humbuckers.
