  • I can hear my watch through my amp

I have this analog mechanical watch (with battery) and when i hold my wrist within a few cm's from my bridge pickup i can hear the ticking of the seconds through my amp
Does this mean it's turned microphonic, or is some other weird physical effect taking place here

Remember a pickup makes a magnetic field. Thus when you put your watch with its moving parts in that field, its picks it up the same way to picks up the movement of the strings.

Is the bridge pickup super high output/a lot quieter than the neck?

Bro, thats why they're called pickups

Have you ever seen Vai live? Steve and Billy Sheehan have this routine where they shout at each other through their respective pickups. Try it sometime!

So to answer your question, your pickups are fine.
I feel festive all year round. Deal with it.

i have a buddy who wore a watch like that...when he played my guitar hed say "ive got a built in metronome!"

you can do all kinds of crazy stuff...like putting an optical mouse next to the pickup (horrible sound...LOL), or something like a drill

The pickups are essentaily a microphone. It will pick up all kinds of things and send them to the amp. TV remotes, cell phones, watches, etc..
If the pup sounds thin and squeels for no reason then its probably going microphonic. Especailly if it's potted (waxed).

By the way, it could damage your watch.
I think. I know we have a "rule" at work about magnetic
                    sources and watches.

If nothing else it will cause your battery to lose juice more quickly. I had a digital clock on a speaker, and couldn't figure out why I had to replace the battery so often. I removed it from the speaker, and no more problems.

I was playing one of my electrics in my La-Z-Boy watching TV. I was surfing and I hear this awful whine in my amp. It was the fucking remote. It sounded cool once I figured out what was going on. Try it.

                              Hey SlasZ,
This sounds like EVH and the drill trick from a few years ago.
