  • Neck Relief

I have seen lots of posts about jackson's factory setup for the neck is very little or no relief, this is with standard tuning and 9 gauge strings right?. What would the relief be using 11 gauge strings and tuning to D?

Put the 11s on and see how it is. You may have to tighten the truss rod a tiny bit.

He's right, you probably will have to tighten the nut a little. It is a matter of preference as to how much releif should be put in a neck. I like mine with very little relief, regardless of string gauge.

While the neck relief will change, that doesn't mean what is ideal will change. If you like the relief where it is now, try and get it back to that when you change gauges/tunings.

For my 25.5" scale guitars, I tune down to E flat with 11's. I actually prefer a little bit of relief in my neck. It just feels best to me. This includes recessed and non-recessed trems.
