• crappy muddy highs, please help

I have a fusion special with stacked sigles in the bridge. the rearmost being a hotrail. my problem is I can't get decent tone when playing "real" chords. power chordes sound great but when I strum a D, it sound like a muddy bucket of poo regardless of the amount of gain on the amp. what can I do? pickup height? raise action? thanks

It ain't a gain problem, it's an EQ problem. Try bumping your highs or presence a bit when using that guitar.

Or replace it with a JBJr and be done with it

try lowering the pickup a little bit. or a lot.
or untill the tone smooths out.

Try smashing that thing against a wall. I don't know what Charvel were thinking with that stupid-ass bridge pickup configuration. In order to get a decent crunchy rhythm sound, the bass side of the pickup should be as close to the bridge as possible. I understand slanting it the opposite way so that the bass side is close to the bridge, and the treble side is further away. That way you get a nice crunchy rhythm, but it smoothes out the treble strings. Anyway, my solution was to route a big cavity in the front of the guitar, glue in a piece of poplar, and turn it into a one-hum beast.

Stupid slanted pickups.

Rebel, you were right on. I blocked the trem and lowered the action significantly without lowering the pickups. took them down almost flush with the body and it is exactly what I wanted. alot more defined without giving up alot of harmonics. thanks.
