  • how far out of whack is your first fret intonation?

    Im dealing with an issue.

My Ibanez plays great, the action is decent, and it's intonated, but it goes pretty sharp on the first few frets. I realise this is a common flaw with standard nuts and such, but im curious under normal touch how far is your note sharp when playing?!?!?

    Im like 4-5 cents sharp.

Sounds like the nut may be just a tad too high and needs to be filed down a tiny bit.

      +1.

Because you have to press the string down so far, it's causing the string to stretch and go sharp.

+1.Press all the strings down at the 3rd fret and look to see how much clearance each string has in relation to the first fret. There should be just a little.

Do some research on Earvana compensated nuts.

My guess is that your D, G, and B strings are your worst. Especially your G.
