The J50BC is a rather lame pup, designed for the use with an active circuitry. That is to say, you need some kind of booster.
I had a J50BC in my Charvel Model 4, that came with a JE-1200 mid boost, and I recently changed it for a J90 in my US Fusion (the Fusion has a JE-1500 - or whatever - midrange-sweep boost).

The sound...I don't even remember it had a sound. Without any active boost, it sounds like nothing and is definately not hot enough for any serious music.
I heard people compare it to a PAF.

Hope this helps.

I quite like the J50BC.

It's like a PAF with a bit more guts. The J80 seems very close to a JB to me. The J90 and J95 are closer to a SD Distortion.

what would you compare it to? is it pretty good for heavy metal/hard rock? is there alot of mids, or does it have a brighter scooped sound, or pretty even? Would you compare it to a duncan JB?
