• Need serious help with wiring

Okay, I got a pretty badass charvette from a friend of mine very cheap (~$70!)
But I would need some help with the wiring since i've never done it before.
some cables are cut off and its all a big mess. i bought a vol pot(500K, does the resistance matter?) since it was missing. what cable goes where? HELP!

and please forgive my lazy english and shitty pics, its late and im to tired to fix it

That a..."interesting" graphic.

Anyway, wiring it is!
I can't see a switch in there. Do you have one, or are you going to keep the singles disconnected?

If you're going to run it with just the humbucker, here's a neat diagram:
http://www.guitarelectronics.com/dia...versal/h1.html
The humbucker in the diagram is a 4-conductor variant. If you have a simple one with just ground and signal wires, wire ground to ground (the pot casing) and the signal to the first tab on the pot, as shown in the diagram.

If you do have a switch, I can't give you advice on how to wire that, because different types of switches are often wired differently (and I have virtually zero experience with 5-way blade switches).

Maybe you can find something useful here:

yeah, the graphic is home made. im not responsible for it. it looks like ass in the pics, but its kinda coolin reality actually.

hehe if you look veery closely you can se a 5-way switch buried somewhere. that brown stuff

Re: Need serious help with wiring

I can email you a diagram for your guitar if you like.

Just tell me if you want to wire it as stock (ala all three pickups) or straight out (ala EVH)

Re: Need serious help with wiring

The three pickups (single/single/humbucker) are wired like a strat to one master volume and tone.

If you never use the single coils (or if your not comfortable doing extensive wiring) I would suggest just going straight with the humbucker to a volume and straight out.

let me know!

My email address shoudl be in my profile by teh way!

Re: Need serious help with wiring

Wiring a 5 way may be a little much for someone that does not do much soldering.

Are you pretty good and have you done it a far bit in the past?

Or by luck are you in Montreal Canada?

Re: Need serious help with wiring

Okay!
I never use the middle pickup and the tonecontrol (always on max)
Can i disconnect them and get a stronger output?

Re: Need serious help with wiring

No!

It has nothing to do with a stronger output but rather just shaping your signal thats all!

I am drawing up a diagram now and will email you it within a few minutes as I have no way to post pics here.

I assume your email address is visable?

what do you mean with "shaping signal"
does the pups sound different depending on the wiring?

Re: Need serious help with wiring

All I need from you is to be able to tell what the wires are from the humbucker pickup only.

Are there two or more and what are the colors and are any taped together (ie white and red)

Re: Need serious help with wiring

Chances are that your humbucker will only have two wires. The hot wire goes to the volumes 1st leg and the other is a ground that is ground to the top of the volume pot.

Dont forget to pull back and ground the 3rd leg of the volume pot if its a new one!

Good luck!
