  • What would do this to the back of a neck?

This is the back of a jackson ps-2 that I got a while ago.

The weird looking blemishes are all underneath the finish. I was just wondering if anyone knows what would cause this.. my guess is moisture somehow this is how I got the guitar.

I was going to try to sand it out and refinish the neck.

This is birdseye in the maple, this is a good thing! makes for nice figure in the grain. This is initially caused by a disease in the wood/tree. and is rarer to have a neck with birdseye. Most people would kill to have nice figureing like this.

Yeah, that's how it's supposed to be. Pretty decent amount of birdeye, too. Cool.

that neck would fetch a pretty penny in the right places. like every one else said it is birdseye maple, good stuff

Amazing how one man's treasure is another's garbage!

Feelin' like I shoulda kept my feet on the ground

Wow! Thanks everyone - I definately won't be touching it now.

How much should a 24 fret birdseye neck sell for?

Here a story about a stupid kid named "Bob"! Back in 85'...i had the
brilliant idea to make my inheirited Martin 1943 D-18 refinished to NEW!!
So i asked (luckily for me) Bob Turner at Bizarre Guitar in Phx,Az
what would it cost me to have my grandads Martin refinished??"
He grabbed me by the t shirt, and yelled " do you want your Martin to
be worth $800.00"?? I said..."uh..no".. Im quick like that.
At the time it was worth about $3K.. today $9K ! So spending around
$400 at the time to cosmetically make it like a new one, would have killed
the resale value! (not that i would sell it, but hey.. if im starving 10 years from now, it would be good to get $12K instead of $1500.00!
Always proceed with caution, and ask around! You can see by the pic
just how terrible the condition is!! Shit, its near mint anyway.
