  • Guitar tool kits

I was just wondering what people would say was their ideal set of tools for looking after their gear.

I've always found it easier to use a credit card to maintain my babies, but I think it's about time I saved myself some cash and did it myself.

So what would you guys recommend as a start?

A good set of screwdrivers (various sizes), wrenches or socket set (for pots and tuners), wire cutters, soldering iron (and the needed accessories), polishing cloth, a good guitar mat and a Dremel.
That should get you started nicely.

    Edit:
    And a box of toothpicks.

-tiny flat head and Fhilips screwdrives
-#2 flat head and Phillips head screwdrivers
-an allen wrench set (both metric and standard)
-a small to medium sized adjustable wrench
              -a good tuner
              -a string winder
              -#0000 steelwool
-a good soldering gun and solder
              -wire cutters and strippers
              -electrical tape
              -a microfiber cloth
-a soft white tshirt or similar cloth
-a good neck rest and pad to work on
              -guitar polish
-boiled linseed oil (real cheap at the hardware store)

and this is just maintence and upgrade tools.

more serious modding needs more tools. like a dremmel and accesories, clamps, files of various sizes.

It sounds like everything is pretty much covered except for information. You may already know all of that but if not add this to your list...

I should add I also keep an extra soft tooth brush around to clean the finger cheese off the frets when it doesn't want to come off.
