  • Intonation Question

When i hit the 12th fret harmonic, the tuning matches the open string.

However, if i hit the 12th fret note, it is sharp in relation to the open string.

Which tuning should i go by? The 12th fret harmonic or the 12th fret note?

I check 1sr and 12th fretted note. I also check 24th fretted note.

Compare the 12th fret harmonic to the 12th fretted note (be sure to fret lightly). If the fretted note is sharp, move the saddle back. If the fretted note is flat, move the saddle forward.

Actually, hold the guitar in playing position for all intonation setups, and fret the string as hard as you would normally play a note. fretting it lightly if you have a heavy left hand won't work well when you actually are playing the guitar.
