  • Amp knobs

Hey guys. I recently got a Peavey 5150 original series and when I turn the post gain knob I hear like a scratchy sound. What can this be, and what can it be done to fix? Thanks in advance.

If I understood you correctly, the sound only gets scratchy when you turn the knob right?

That sounds like a classic potentiometer problem.
It should be fixed by taking it out, and cleaning it with a little bit of contact cleaner spray.

I have never seen those amps on the inside, but maybe you can use a toothbrush to clean the knob with too (on the inside of it, of course) when you have got it out.
If this doesn't help, replace the knob.

    good luck,

    - Rune.

That's exactly what's happening. I try to get the knob out but I can't seem to do it with my fingers. Any tips?

I'd just replace the pot (or have it done). It's less than 5 bucks for the pot and any decent electronics repair shop can replace it for a small amount of $.
