  • It's Not Rocket Science...BUT.........

Anybody got suggestions for cutting foam to fit in a flight case?
I need to re-foam my Flight case (cut for an Explorer and it's the new home for a Strat shape)
I tried scisors & razor blades and it looks like crap.

Can you buy pre cut foam???

1: Attach a butter knife to a piece of wood. (hammer handle, ect.)
2: Heat knife with a torch.
3: Wear gloves and go to town.

This works pretty well, try on a piece of spare foam, but heat is the key to cutting foam.

If you need a more accurate, thinner cut. Find a thin piece of metal the appropriate length, sharpen one side with a grinder.

    You get the idea.

If you want to get really accurate, a hot wire cutter is the way to go.

Here's a link to instructions of a homemade one.

thanks, I had an Idea for a wire attached to a lantern battery but figured I'd shock the piss out of myself & it would end up not working anyway.

      I'll give the knife/torch thing a whirl.

I'm not speaking from experience but a very good friend of mine owns an upholstery shop and he uses an electric carving knife (yeah..like you carve a turkey with) and he swears by it.
My goal in life is to be the kind of asshole my wife thinks I am.

my brother used to use a bread knife (wide blade, finer teeth) to cut upholstery foam for projects, and it worked really well without worrying about shocking your self or burning down your house.

I redid my flight case for my head and pedal board. I used a brand new exacto knife.
