  • Squire EMG conversion

So I took my boring Squire and decided to have some fun.

It started off life as your typical 3 tite strat, but it needed something, so I did this...

The sound was better, but it was the old Duncan Designed pup from my PC3, and it's not the greatest sounding pickup.
I was going to upgrade it with a white SD TB-14, until Quakana (Dave) offered up a white EMG 81/85 combo and I though cool!

So with Dave's EMG's and the replacement pickguard, the fun can begin.

I took the old pickguard off and placed the new blank on the guitar to take some measurements.

    Nothing like a blank canvas.

After all the measuring and more measuring, the cutting began.
An hour later, this was the result.

The EMG's are direct mount under the pickguard, so no screws (the reason for all the measuring) .

Still need to finish off the wiring and do a little bit of fine sanding on the cut edges, but all the hardware is where it should be.
Running the 85 in the bridge and the 81 in the neck, no tone knob and 18 volts. (Swimming pool routes are great!)
I need to go get some more solder and heat shrink sleeves and then I'll be ready to give it a good test run.

Thanks again Dave for the pups!

It's all wired up and fuck this thing sounds HUGE!!!
Running an 18v setup is definitely worth it.
      Here it is... all done.
Crappy pic, I know... bad lighting

Those appear to be ivory EMGs and not white. Still very nice looking, though.

The EMG's looked white until I put them on a WHITE pickguard.
                I like the look.
As for the headstock, I like it. As Straycat said... this was from a limited run of Squire Affinity guitars from MF. Nice sunburst finish and the neck is really nice. It had fret fangs, but that was easily fixed with a fret file. The rest of the guitar is very solid, Alder body and one piece maple neck.
                Not bad for $149.
