  • Mod 6 Pickups

Question about pickups. I own a couple of Mod 6's, but not really happy with the stock pickups. What is a good replacement for them.

I'm looking for a more solid, warm, low end sound, not a metal sound. I usually use my Fender Strat w/Duncans, but I really like the feel of a
Mod 6. So I'm just throwing this question out there, if anyone ever experimented with changing out the P/U's.

Not sure if I can add anything of value. I like pie.

Seriously though, I've had a few different pickups in mine. The thing is - I go for a metal sound, so I tend to put high output pickups in there.

The stock humbucker wasn't my thing either. I thought it sounded nice, but too low output for me. I first put EMGs in it, trying it with both an 85 and a 58. It sounded nice with both. Then as I started looking for passive pickups, I tried a DiMarzio X2N. Very nice pickup: Very high output and tight bass response. It was a little too flat sounding for me though - I like a ton of high mids in my tone.

Now I've put in a Jackson J80C - the stock pickup from my 750XL. Output is a touch lower than I usually prefer, but it sounds good in the Model 6, however very veeery 80's. It sounds like Motley Crue right away. I can't describe it as very bassy though.

Hopefully someone else can give you better suggestions.

    Good luck!

Consider a DiMarzio Paf® DP103. It's the least annoying pickup I know Seriously, it is very balanced and its sound can easily be shaped by using different amps, pedals, effects and so on. That's my view on it. It's a fairly low output pickup if I recall correctly.
