  • Emg Wiring help

Ok so this is my 1st ever attempt at installing Emg's in a guitar.
Thought I had everything soldered correctly according to the diagram and instructions.

2 emgs, 1 vol, 1 tone and 3 way blade selector.
but I only get sound when the pickup selector is in the bridge position and then I cant even tell which pickup is actually working. Also both volume and tone pots work, just not the selector in the middle and neck positions.
bridge pickup wire is going to 4 on the selector, neck to 8, and then black wire from 1 to a spot on the volume pot.

what kinda throws me off is the numbered areas on the blade selector are in different spots on the the part I have versus the one in the diagram.

Anybody see anything obvious I screwed up from these crappy pics I took?

Thanks in advance for any help.

If you have the quick connect type just unhook one and find out which one is actually working.

I'm pretty sure you're problem is the wiring of the switch.
To find out which pickup is working, what I do is put my amp on a distortion channel, turn the guitar volume up, then take a screwdriver and tap or scrape it on the pickups. Whichever pickup is on will make a louder sound thru your amp.

Here is a pic of wiring with a 3-way blade, but this type of switch has the 8 lugs four on a side. What you can see is that a couple lugs have to be connected to each other by soldering a wire between the lugs

I'll keep looking to see if I can find wiring for a switch like yours. You could always go to a music store and buy a fender tele 3-way and wire up like the diagram.

This should help tell you what lug does what, look at the megaswitch at lower left. It has the 1 thru 8 identifier numbers.

          OK here ya go.
Page 3 shows the numbers on the switch
Page 11 shows two pickups and how you have to bridge the lugs to make it work

well it is the neck pickup that isnt working yet so something is hooked up wrong to the selector switch. Just a pain with front loading electronics to do trial and error.
