    should the action (distance between strings and frets) be equal from 1st to 24th fret? i don't believe this trem has been properly adjusted or i'm just paranoid. if it should vary, by how much should it be?

      No, it would not be equal. It will rise a bit as you get closer towards the bridge.

          That is mostly down to preference. On mine, the high E string is around 0.5 mm over the 1st fret, 1+ mm over the 12th fret, and around 1.5 over the 24th fret. The bass side is slightly higher. I don't measure my action very carefully though. Just set it where it feels comfortable and go with it.
