  • Chrome vs. black (hardware)

Between these two, in perfect conditions of maintenance (cleaning, wiping sweat off, etc) but with regular playing, which one will last longer and look similar to when it was new after years of use?

Id have to say black will out last the chrome any day of the week. Most of my guitars hardware is black, and virtually no fading or anything. Chrome tends to pit and rust when not taken care of properly, and our body oils certainly dont help it much either.

I thought the same but then some people told me that chrome overlasted black, since it was painted chrome and all, I'm a bit confused

I know from biking chrome is different from paint and won't chip on impact or peel, but how that applies to guitar hardware, I'm not sure

I think the black dulls out and then stays that way, chrome seems to deteriorate more
