First remove the neck, pickups, knobs etc.. and trem.. Then I would use a 600-1000 sandpaper, wetsand untill you get a even dull finish. you want to tape the cavity where the neck sits so as not to change the height or make it too tight to reinstall the neck. Thats all the prep you'll need before painting. I dont know about the krylons, but when i use automotive paint and clear, I let it dry for 12 hours or so then wet sand the finish with 1500-2000 sandpaper. get rid of any oarnge peel if any. The finish will look dull again. Then use a rubbing compound and power buffer to bring the shine back, after that i use a wax with the buffer. If all goes well, you will have a professional looking piece.
    Good Luck.
