    Guitar World 12/91 cover - Mustaine/Friedman

    Ok, for those of you with the Dec 1991 Guitar World (with Dave and Marty on the cover) I just noticed that Marty is holding a Firebird, not a Kelly, and that it says "Grover Jackson" on the head after the Jackson logo (like the Pile-o'-Skulls one with the Ontario address on the trussrod cover in that auction a while back).

    Interesting

    For those who don't have the book, it's black, h-s-s, 3310, ebony with reverse fins, reverse head, bound body and neck and head, blackhardware. And Marty looks like a friggin poodle [img]graemlins/laugh.gif[/img]

    I remember having that issue, but I must have thrown it away. I don't remember it having Grover's name on the headstock, though. Can you scan a pic of it?

      I'll try a close-up photo - it's kinda grainy and the scanner would make it blurry.

        Note the location of the (R) on Marty's as opposed to Dave's, and that Dave's says Made In USA.

                I owned that Firebird a few years ago and can tell its story. It was made in Japan and was purchased by Marty while he was there visiting. For whatever reason, Marty is a fan of Eastern culture and has spend a lot of time in the Far East.

                The Jacksons with "Grover Jackson" on the headstock are all Japanese made and marketed only in Japan.

                He used that Firebird on one of the Clash of the Titans tours.

                It has been refinished. Great guitar that played and sounded great.

                  Thanks Bret - I knew about Grover Jacksons, but because the pic was kinda blurry, I wasn't sure if it actually said Grover Jackson or "something-else Jackson".
                  Given the time frame (90/91) that was one of the very early USA-quality Grovers. SWEET!
                  Any idea where it is now?
