  • Neck Screw Hole Filling Help

OK guys I need to fill the screw holes on this neck I'm using on my Mojo-Jackson project and Im going to drill and dowell the current holes. Is it ok to use a normal wood adhesive or do I need something stronger? I have an Evo-stick wood adhesive if it will do?

    Thanks

I usually drill it out to the size of the dowl, put some wood glue in there, and tap the dowel in until it bottoms out. Cut off excess dowel, wait until dry, then sand flat. Use any type of wood glue.

Come out perfect, you can run your finger over it and never know its there.

Make sure it's a hardwood dowel.

Would Maple be the best wood for dowel?

I use the wood Kabob sticks. Shape to fit. A dab of wood glue and WaLa. Buy a pack and your can plug holes forever.:ROTF: :ROTF:

Nah, that's just for strap button holes.

I went to the Roddy McDowell website. He's dead, his parting shot was: "If it fits, it's all good":ROTF: :ROTF: :ROTF: I'm sorry.

Any type of hardwood dowels will do.
I'd recommend picking them up at Home Depot or Lowes as opposed to the softer and cheaper dowels you find at a hobby or craft store.

Also, one trick I've learned is to cut slits legnthwise on the dowels before tapping them in. This helps prevent air pockets and will help seat the dowel flush with the bottom of the hole.

You probably know this, but just in case: when the neck is ready, remember to pre-drill it for the neck screws, in the correct size, which is the diameter of the core of the screws. Good luck on the doweling.
