OK I dont want to sound stupid but what are pots inside of a guitar and what are they for and also what are people doing when they change the pots inside of a guitar(im not asking how they do it, im asking what do they do it for to change the tone exc.)

    pots is short for "potentiometer"

This is the volume and tone control. most change them because they get dirty and the guitar sounds bad, or you have static, or static when turning the knob.

You can also change the value of pots and get a slightly different sound, however... Most guitars are 250Kohm or 500Kohm. (500k is generally for humbuckers) except EMG active pickups use 25kohm.

Just need a steady hand, very basic soldering skills, a soldering iron and a dab of solder to change them.
